A day in the life of President Droupadi Murmu, which includes a 6 AM walk through Amrit Udyan

After meditation, it’s time for a brisk walk through Amrit Udyan, one of the most serene and majestic gardens in India. Spanning almost 165 acres, the garden covers nearly half of the entire 330-acre Rashtrapati Bhavan compound. President Murmu walks almost two kilometres every day, breathing in the fresh air, taking in the seasonal blooms, and occasionally greeting the peacocks that grace the premises.

Once her morning routine is complete, she gets ready and makes her way across the stately corridors of Rashtrapati Bhavan to her study. This is where the real work begins, from signing key national documents to meeting global dignitaries, hosting state guests, and holding crucial discussions.

The President’s study is adjacent to one of the most exclusive parts of the presidential estate: the North Court. This special entryway is so secure and symbolic that only five individuals in the nation have access to it—the Prime Minister, Vice President, Chief Justice of India, former Presidents, and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The location reflects both the solemnity and the security of her position.
