Three women drown in Bhakra canal as tractor loses balance

The incident took place around 8 am when driver Ramphal was taking nine women, including a 13-year-old girl, in the tractor along with paddy saplings to another village for transplantation.

In a shocking incident three women, including a teenager, drowned in Bhakra canal in Khanauri area of Sangrur district on Friday morning.

The incident took place around 8 am when driver Ramphal was taking nine women, including a 13-year-old girl, in the tractor along with paddy saplings to another village for transplantation.

The tractor lost balance on the kuchha road along the canal near Gehla village and fell into the canal due to which three women drowned and the rest were saved by divers.

The deceased have been identified as Geeta, Kamlesh and 13-year-old Payal.

All were from Maniani village located nearby said SHO Khanauri Saurabh Sabharwal .

According to eyewitness, the deceased fell near the edge of the canal and it was very difficult to save them. Their bodies couldn’t be recovered till the filing of this report. All the rescued people were admitted to a private hospital in Tohana, Haryana.
