Bengal tourism to get only Rs 136 cr grant in 2012-17 : Singh

The West Bengal Tourism Department gets Rs 136 crore as grant for the 12th Plan period.

The West Bengal Tourism Department feels deprived with just Rs 136 crore as grant for the 12th Plan period at a time when the Gujarat government has been able to extract a whopping Rs 1200 crore.

“We have got nothing compared to other states,” Tourism minister Rachpal Singh said on sunday while hinting that there were ‘other factors’ for it without elaborating.

The new dispensation under Mamata Banerjee is trying to revive tourism in the state.

The chief minister has called for promoting ayurvedic spas in the state after Kerala met with success in it.

“If Kerala can do wonders with ayurvedic tourism,why cannot we?” she has said. The state tourism department due to lack of funds,the is trying to implement projects in the PPP model.
