Weather forecast Today, Cyclone Maha Highlights: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the severe cyclonic storm ‘Maha’ is very likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm over east-central Arabian Sea during next 24 hours. The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places in Lakshadweep during the next 24 hours. Heavy rain lashed the island on Thursday.
Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Kerala, coastal Karnataka and south Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours. Also, the skies over Mumbai are likely to be cloudy with the possibility of thunder, lightning and slight rain over the next 24 hours. After that, the city is likely to witness cloudy skies but without rainfall over the following days, the IMD said in a statement on Thursday.
In other news, the number of masked faces in Delhi continued to grow as the city remained blanketed under the pungent haze for the fourth consecutive day on Friday with major pollutants PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 500 both in ‘severe’ category in Lodhi Road area, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data. In Ghaziabad, major pollutants PM 2.5 was at 487 and PM 10 at 467, in ‘severe’ category.
 
						
Cyclone Maha did not touch Lakshwadeep and moved across. Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal said the islands witnessed rough seas and heavy rains due to Cyclone Maha but no major damage was reported.
Earlier, the Met department had predicted that Maha will cross the Lakshadweep and gale wind speed reaching 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph was likely over northern parts of the islands area and adjoining southeast Arabian sea.
After moving across Lakshadweep, the cyclone lay centered on Friday morning about 450 km northnorthwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep), it said. The Kerala Disaster Management Authority said cyclone Maha was not a threat to Kerala anymore.

The IMD has predicted thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, gusty winds, and moderate to intense spells of rain to occur in the districts of Pune, Raigad and Nashik during the next four hours.

The IMD has predicted that the Maharashtra cyclone will intensify and turn into a very severe cyclone. IMD Director in Gujarat J Sarkar said that from November 6, the cyclone will re-curve towards the North East and may move towards Gujarat between the morning of November 6 and 7.
"We expect wind speed of 60-70 km/hr along the Gujarat coast on Nov 6 which may increase further," he said.
The states of Punjab and Haryana must take immediate stringent actions to curb the stubble burning, Environment Pollution (Prevention&Control) Authority said.
It further directed that biomass burning in Delhi NCR must also be strictly checked.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced schools in the capital would be shut till November 5. "In wake of rising level of pollution caused by stubble burning, the Delhi government has decided to shut schools till November 5," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are receiving rainfall today due to Cyclone Maha over eastcentral Arabian Sea. The weather agency has said heavy rainfall can be expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Till November 8, peninsula India can expect isolated to scattered rainfall along with thunderstorm activity.

This is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours. Meanwhile, there is already a cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh and its neighbourhood extending upto 2.1 km above mean sea level persists, the IMD said today.
An AQI above 500 is considered “severe-plus emergency” category. AQI between 0-50 is considered “good”, 51-100 “satisfactory”, 101-200 “moderate”, 201-300 “poor”, 301-400 “very poor”, and 401-500 “severe”, a category in which Delhi’s air has been for the past three days.
A Supreme Court-mandated panel declared a public health emergency in Delhi Friday as the Air Quality Index hit the 500-mark in several locations, and hovered close in many other areas. The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) also ordered a complete construction ban till November 5 in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Greater Noida, along with a ban on the bursting of firecrackers during the winter season. Rain and thundershowers were observed between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Thursday at isolated places over Puducherry, according to the India Meteorological Department. Maximum temperatures here were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) on Thursday, while minimum temperatures were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C), said the weather bureau.
Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning is very likely at isolated places in Chhattisgarh. Raipur witnessed light rains on Thursday. Today, the maximum and the minimum temperatures in the city are 32 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celcius respectively. Partly cloudy skies are predicted for later today.
The IMD has warned of strong winds with speed reaching at least 100-110 km per hour over the eastcentral Arabian Sea and in the Lakshadweep area because of Cyclone Maha. It has also warned the fishermen to remain off the sea and coasts.

Residents of Kerala can expect heavy to very heavy rainfall today dur to the influence of Cyclone Maha in the Arabian Sea. In Kochi, which has received 67.8 mm of rainfall in the 23 hours ending 8.30 am, the weather department has predicted one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The minimum and maximum temperature in the city is expected to be 24 and 30 degrees Celsius.
Under the influence of the severe cyclonic storm Maha, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over south Tamil Nadu on Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department. On Thursday, rain and thundershowers were observed at isolated places in the state between 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
The Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Maha' (Pronounced as M'maha) over eastcentral Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 17 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 5 am on November 1 near Latitude 14.6°N and Longitude 71.7°E over eastcentral Arabian Sea about 300 km north of Cheriapani Reef (Lakshadweep), 400 km north-northwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep) and 390 km west-northwest of Mangaluru (Karnataka). It is very likely to move north-northwestwards during next 6 hours. Then, it is very likely to move northwestwards during subsequent 06 hours and thereafter move west-northwestwards. It is very likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over eastcentral Arabian sea during the next 12 hours.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over coastal Karnataka for the next 24 hours. Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gushing to 60 kmph likely along the Karnataka, Goa-Maharashtra coast. Fishermen have been advised to not venture into the southeast Arabian Sea along and off Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra coasts.
The skies over Mumbai are likely to be cloudy with the possibility of thunder, lightning and slight rain over the next 24 hours, the IMD said in a statement on Thursday. The maximum temperature in Mumbai on Thursday was 36 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 25 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to drop by one degree and come down to 35 degrees Celsius on Friday and further down to 34 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Read More
