BJP questions Robert Vadra’s declared net worth in Priyanka’s affidavit; ‘Have not done anything wrong,’ he hits back

“It is not that she (Priyanka) filed an affidavit to come clean. The Supreme Court requires an affidavit to be filed. The declared net worth of Vadra is less than the demand made by the income tax department. In 2010-11, the income tax department’s demand was Rs 7 crore; in 11-12, it was Rs 3 crore; in 2013-14, it was Rs 11 crore; in 2014-15, it was Rs 10 crore. If we add the demand, the total demand of the income tax department is Rs 75 crore,” he added.

“See how much vasooli (recovery) they were doing. The entire country is asking Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka to furnish an explanation as to what was the means for this prima facie ill-gotten wealth. Please answer. Let the nation know about it,” Bhatia said.

“Look at the hypocrisy. We all know that Rahul levels false corruption charges on the BJP and NDA. Rahul regularly accuses a company by name but his brother-in-law invests in the same company. Who will trust him? It is PM’s 11th year but he is pure like Gangajal and no one can point a finger at him,” he added.

Labelling the Gandhi family as “people with SUVs and farmhouses”, Bhatia said that Priyanka’s affidavit shows the value of a house in Shimla at one-tenth the market price.

In a statement, Vadra said, “People are aware of the truth. I have not done anything wrong and I am ready to face any agency.”

Showing purported photos of the filing of Priyanka’s election affidavit, Bhatia said that while members of the Gandhi family were inside the room, Kharge was made to stand outside. “The Gandhi family knows how to use Dalits and backwards. They will give a post to a backward person but run the show by remote control,” he said, also recalling that former Congress president Sitaram Kesri was “thrown out” of the party headquarters and not allowed to complete his term.

Dismissing the BJP’s charge, Congress leader Pranav Jha said, “It is very unfortunate that even after 10 years in power in this country, the government and its ministers are yet forced to resort to falsehood and lies. What happened in Wayanad was that the district magistrate said that they have a rule that there cannot be more than five people in the room at one time. So you see in the video that they take turns – when two people go out or one person goes out, another one comes in so that at any point in time, there are no more than five people.”

“So what the Congress president did, he patiently waited. What you see is that after a while Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and K C Venugopal were inside. This is what the video depicts. But the whole bandwagon of BJP is forced, is orchestrated, to lie, to defame, to divert the attention of the people from real issues of this country,” Jha added.
