Wanted in terror funding case, Kashmiri ‘shawl seller’ arrested in Delhi by J-K Police’s intel wing

The intelligence wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a former militant from Delhi for his alleged involvement in “terror funding and links with terrorist organisations”.

According to police, Parvaiz Ahmad Khan, alias PK, was wanted in a terror funding FIR registered last year by Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK). Delhi Police sources said Khan told officers that he was in the business of selling shawls in Delhi and Chandigarh.

The J&K Police said the “covert operation” to arrest him was carried out together with the Delhi Police and its intelligence wing.

In a release, CIK said the case registered against Khan “relates to providing of logistic support to terrorists of proscribed terrorist organisation(s) active in UT of J&K by a variety of means”, including providing or passing on funds to them for carrying terrorist activities.

“This money is being routed through various means from across LoC, then pushed into India through their couriers which included arrested accused Parvez Ahmad Khan,” the release said.

Delhi Police sources said Khan was picked up from Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Wednesday night.

He had been staying near Nizamuddin Dargah at a guest house with a room rent of Rs 1,000 per day since February 12, a source said.

According to Delhi Police sources, Khan said he had been selling shawls in the wholesale markets of Delhi and Chandigarh and that he would visit these cities for business every year, staying for two months before returning to go Kashmir.

He also told the investigators that he was planning to go back to Kashmir after his work, a source said.

On Thursday, after his arrest, he was produced before a Delhi court from where the CIK got his transit remand. He has been taken back to Kashmir in police vehicles. He will be produced before a local court in Kashmir on Friday.

A resident of Srinagar, Khan had been detained for two years at the Korbhalwal jail in Jammu before being released, police sources said.
