Thousands of people took to the streets of Imphal and participated in a protest rally to save the state's territorial integrity on Friday. The rally, 'Walk to Save Manipur', was organised by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI). It commenced at 10 am from THAU Ground in Thangmeiband, Imphal, and concluded at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium after passing through the major streets of Imphal city, including Khuyathong, Nagamapal, BT Road and North AOC. Heavy security was deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. The rally drew participants from diverse communities, all united in their call for peace and stability in the region to safeguard Manipur's integrity. Slogans such as "Long live Manipur," "We want peace," and "Protection of the Territorial Integrity of Manipur" reverberated as people from all walks of life joined hands in a powerful statement of solidarity. The rally saw the participation of prominent political figures, including two MLAs, and CSO leaders of Manipur. In the wake of the rally, many schools and colleges were closed, and most of the markets and establishments in the Imphal area remained shut. A scheduled government programme, which was to be attended by the Chief Minister of Manipur, was also cancelled. After the rally, a public meeting was convened, where the gathering adopted eight-point resolutions. These included mounting pressure on the central and state governments to immediately implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to flush out illegal immigrants, not to extend the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with "Chin-Kuki Narco Terrorists," refraining from launching an operation against village volunteers to recover weapons until the conflict is resolved, and protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur. The resolution will be submitted to the President of India and the Prime Minister.
