Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar is new NCW chief
Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, the ninth chairperson of the NCW, succeeds Rekha Sharma whose tenure as NCW chairperson ended in August after two consecutive terms.

The Centre has appointed Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, the national secretary of the BJP, as the chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW).

Rahatkar has been appointed for a three-year term or till the age of 65 years, whichever is the earliest. She is a former national president of the BJP Mahila Morcha.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD), Rahatkar has served as chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women from 2016 to 2021, and was the Mayor of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) from 2007 to 2010. Rahatkar holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and a Master’s degree in history from the University of Pune.
During her term as chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Rahatkar “spearheaded initiatives” like ‘Sakshama’ (support for acid attack survivors),’Prajwala’ (linking self-help groups to Central government schemes), and ‘Suhita’ (24×7 helpline service for women), the WCD statement said. Rahatkar, in a post on X, thanked PM Narendra Modi, BJP national president and Union Minister J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
