Vice President Election Results 2025 Date, Time, Process: Over a month after the post of the Vice-President of India fell vacant with Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation, which he attributed to “health reasons”, the elections to the post began at 10 am on September 9, Tuesday in Parliament House.
Dhankhar stepped down from the post hours after he presided over the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha on July 21 this year. Two candidates, C P Radhakrishnan, and B Sudershan Reddy, nominated by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition, respectively, are in the fray for the post.

Following Article 324 of the Constitution of India, the elections to the Office of the Vice-President is vested in the Election Commission of India (ECI), according to the ECI website.
When will the Vice-Presidential election results be out?
The Vice-Presidential polls, which are underway in Room No. F-101, at Vasudha, Parliament House, will continue till 5 pm on Tuesday, according to Sabha Secretary General P C Mody, who is the returning officer for the vice-presidential election. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to social media platform X to post that all “315 MPs have turned up for voting”, resulting in an “unprecedented 100% turnout”.
Following the schedule, the votes will be counted on the same day in the same room where the polls are conducted. The counting of the votes is set to begin at 6 pm.
Who will declare the results of V-P elections?
After the elections are held and the votes have been counted, the Returning Officer declares the result of the election, as per the official website of the Vice President of India.
Thereafter, the returning officer, Mody, in the ongoing elections, will report the result to the Central Government (that is, Ministry of Law and Justice). The Election Commission of India and the Central Government then will publish the name of the person elected as Vice-President, in the Official Gazette.
How will the winner be declared?
Adhering to the system of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote, every elector in the Vice-Presidential election has as many preferences as candidates contesting the elections, here, two.
According to ECI, the winning candidate has to secure the required quota of votes to be declared elected, which is 50 per cent of the valid votes cast +(plus) 1.
In the current scenario, the results of the election will be known right after the first round of counting itself. The candidate who has secured more number of votes than the other candidate will be declared elected.
