Budgam shrine attack: 3 policemen suspended

According to officials, militants, believed to be two in number, attacked and injured the constable with an iron rod and snatched his service rifle.

Three policemen were suspended on Saturday after militants attacked an on-duty policeman and decamped with four rifles from Pakerpora shrine in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday evening.

Officials said four policemen were assigned to guard the shrine, but on Friday evening only one constable was present who was attacked and injured by the militants. The militants looted three SLRs, one carbine rifle along with three magazines and 60 rounds. Following the attack, police have detained seven people to hunt for clues.

According to officials, militants, believed to be two in number, attacked and injured the constable with an iron rod and snatched his service rifle. Later, the attackers entered the guardroom and decamped with three other rifles of men who were not present on duty.
