‘Truth is not what they showed’: Akhilesh Yadav, AAP target BJP after Ayodhya Deepotsav record

Two new world records were set at this year's Deepotsav in Ayodhya: one, for the largest display of oil lamps, and second, for most number of people performing 'aarti' simultaneously

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav, and the Aam Aadmi Party Tuesday came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Uttar Pradesh over the “reality of inflation and poverty” that has gripped the state.

Posting a video of people collecting leftover oil in earthen lamps (diyas) along the ghats of Ayodhya after Deepotsav, Yadav wrote in Hindi: “The truth is, these are the scenes… not the sights that people showed and then left.” It is unclear who shot the video and when.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) shared the video from its official handle on X, slamming the BJP for its “claims about reducing inflation and lifting millions of families out of poverty”.

“These are the scenes from Ayodhya after Deepotsav that were not shown. These scenes reveal the reality of those claims in which the BJP government talks about reducing inflation and lifting millions of families out of poverty,” the party wrote.

The video is being shared widely over the internet, just days after two new world records were set at this year’s Deepotsav in Ayodhya: one, for the largest display of oil lamps, and second, for most number of people performing ‘aarti’ simultaneously.

About 26.17 lakh diyas were lit at the same place as 2,128 people performed ‘aarti’ together for the grand celebrations in the temple town, according to the Uttar Pradesh government. UP Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh and Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat presented the Guinness Award certificate to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
