Union Health Minister J P Nadda Friday said he has sought a full report on the issue of animal fat being used in preparation of laddoos that are served at Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati temple.

He added that the government will further examine the matter and take suitable action

This comes a day after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that animal fat — with ‘beef tallow’, ‘lard’, and ‘fish oil’ — was used as an ingredient in the laddoos at the Sri Venkateswara Temple, instead of ghee during the previous Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Answering a question on preventive options in regard to adulteration of food, he said: “It’s very difficult to say. FSSAI is working on it. We have checks at every entry and exit point of testing facilities and there are several certifications as well. About this incident, let me get into the details of it and we shall decide accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition filed by senior YSRCP leader Y V Subba Reddy on September 25 over the ongoing controversy garnering reactions from political leaders across party lines.

Reddy sought to file a lunch motion petition today for unearthing the truth around the matter, Subba Reddy’s arguing counsel P Sudhakar Reddy was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
