The Tipra Motha Sunday announced that it will submit copies of a memorandum at government offices across Tripura on November 14 highlighting various demands of the tribal population.
As per the announcement, the BJP ally will press for the implementation of the tripartite Tiprasa Accord, early holding of panchayat polls in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), and the adoption of the 125th constitutional amendment bill that envisages more administrative, executive, and financial powers for autonomous councils under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, among others.
Speaking to reporters in Agartala, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said the decision to submit the memorandum to the Governor, block development officers, sub-divisional magistrates, and district magistrates was taken following an organisational meeting of the party.
Pradyot Kishore also informed he would visit New Delhi towards the end of November to attend a tripartite meeting on the Tiprasa accord.
“We shall go for a meeting in Delhi at the end of the month… Our demand is not against anyone but to uplift our community. If anyone feels that with the upliftment of the tribal population, someone will face loss in the state, then he is spreading poison here. This is going to be the second round of the meeting. I expect the Centre to respond positively to our demands,” he said.
Talking about the 125th amendment bill, he said, “The BJP, Congress, and all other parties are saying that the 125th amendment bill should be passed. So, if all are ready, why have we been told to wait? For how long we shall wait?”
Speaking about his recent meeting with Chief Minister Manik Saha, he said the latter has assured him that village council polls in TTAADC would be conducted soon in accordance with the directives of the High Court of Tripura.
When asked, he said there has been no formal discussion yet on a pre-poll alliance with the BJP for the village polls.
In September, Pradyot Kishore attended the first round of talks in New Delhi over the tripartite Tiprasa Accord, which was signed by the Centre, the state government, and the TIPRA Motha in March.
