Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma met Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha at the latter’s official residence in Agartala on Friday. The meeting between the ruling alliance leaders came three days after Pradyot Kishore floated a pan-regional forum with the stated aim of merging all regional parties in the Northeast.

Asked about the meeting, Pradyot Kishore described it as a “welcome step”. “In the meeting, we placed our points and he (CM) also placed his points. We hope that this will move forward and everyone in Tripura will benefit,” he added.

However, the Tipra Motha founder said no discussions were held regarding village council elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

“We didn’t talk about elections. It is a separate process. Positive conversation was held…” he said.

When asked if there was any discussion regarding the implementation of the tripartite Tiprasa Accord, Pradyot Kishore said the process was going on.

Meanwhile, the Tipra Motha founder also joined an interactive session with the first batch of civil service aspirants who have secured a scholarship instituted in the memory of Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarma.

The scholarship is sponsored by TTAADC in association with Oriental IAS Academy.

“The normal course fee (for civil services coaching) is Rs 1.20 lakh, and the TTAADC and Oriental Academy subsidise it, making it quite affordable at Rs 60,000… I hope for the best. I want them (aspirants) to be happy. And if they become successful, they will inspire more people to join. This year, I have started with 45 people. Next year, it may be 70, and then 100. If we keep making such attempts, good results will definitely come,” the Tipra Motha founder said.

“Both Bengalis and Tiprasas are there (among the scholarship recipients). I thought that if we make people from our state IAS officers, TCS officers, then our state will move forward. Everything is not about politics. Upgrading people is better than politics. That’s why I have started this initiative. My father (Maharaja Kirit Bikram) loved everyone, and he is loved by everyone. I think this is the best way to honour his memory,” he added.
