Thailand coffin incident: A temple in Thailand went into disbelief after a 65-year-old woman, believed to be dead for two days, began moving inside her coffin. Her family had brought her in for cremation, news agency AP reported.

The incident occurred at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham in Nonthaburi on the outskirts of Bangkok. In a video the temple later posted on Facebook, the woman can be seen lying in a white coffin in the back of a pick-up truck, her arms and head shifting slightly, which shocked the temple staff.

Pairat Soodthoop, who oversees general and financial affairs at the temple, told AP that the woman’s brother had driven her all the way from Phitsanulok province, about 500 km away. She had been bedridden for nearly two years, and the family believed she had stopped breathing earlier last week. With no signs of movement, they assumed she had passed away.

The brother first took her to a Bangkok hospital, hoping to fulfil her wish to donate her organs. But without an official death certificate, the hospital declined. He then approached the temple for a free cremation, only to be told again that the paperwork was required.

Pairat said he was explaining the process when they heard a noise from inside the coffin. “When we opened the lid, she slowly opened her eyes and kept tapping the side,” he said, speaking to AP.

Temple workers immediately called for help, and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital. The abbot has stated that the temple will cover her medical expenses, according to AP.
