Telugu actor Mohan Babu booked for attempt to murder after ‘attacking’ journalist

The incident occurred when several journalists and Babu’s son Manchu Manoj, who is involved in a dispute with his father, were entering the farmhouse.

Veteran Telugu film actor M Mohan Babu was booked on charges of attempt to murder after he allegedly attacked a TV news journalist earlier this week outside his farmhouse at Jalpally, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

M Ranjith Kumar, the journalist, suffered a fracture on his cheekbone when Mohan Babu on December 9 allegedly hit him in the face after grabbing his microphone.

The incident occurred when several journalists and Babu’s son Manchu Manoj, who is involved in a dispute with his father, were entering the farmhouse.

Kumar then lodged a complaint at Pahadishareef police station, where an FIR was registered under Section 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of BNS. Kumar said the mike had a steel pipe and metal logo and that this caused him very serious injuries and severe loss of blood.

After assessing the medical report of the injured journalist, which indicated fractures on his cheekbone, police added BNS section 109 (attempt to murder) to the case.

On Tuesday, the Rachakonda Police Commissioner had issued a notice to Mohan Babu to appear before police the next day to record his statement, but he said he would unable to do so as he had been admitted to a hospital for high blood pressure.

Officials said they would initiate action once his health is back to normal.
