Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan accepted the resignations of Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) chairman B Janardhan Reddy and three members on Wednesday. It was a month ago, on December 11, 2023, that Janardhan Reddy submitted his resignation, hours after calling on the newly sworn-in chief minister, A Revanth Reddy.
Janardhan Reddy assumed the office of the TSPSC chairman on May 21, 2021, and his tenure was marred by alleged question paper leaks and irregularities in the conduct of recruitment exams to fill government vacancies. While Reddy had submitted his resignation, there was no word from the Raj Bhavan regarding the acceptance of his resignation.
On Tuesday, Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy wrote to the Raj Bhavan urging the governor to take a decision regarding the resignation of the TSPSC chairman and the three members——R Satyanarayana, Prof Bandi Linga Reddy, and Karam Ravinder Reddy.
Jeevan Reddy said the Congress had promised during the election to fill 2 lakh government vacancies within a year of assuming charge and that a full-fledged TSPSC with a chairman and members was essential. As the chairman and the members had tendered their resignations, Jeevan Reddy requested the governor to take a decision on their resignations so that the recruitment process could be initiated.
In a clarification statement issued on Wednesday, the Raj Bhavan said there had been no delay on the part of the governor in accepting the resignations. “Upon receiving the resignations, as per Business Rules, the Governor promptly forwarded them to the State Government for circulation of the file, along with the remarks and the opinion of the Learned Advocate General, through the Chief Minister after ensuring a thorough examination of the matter.”
It further said that “it is imperative to note that the ongoing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) played a crucial role in the decision-making process. In light of this, the State Government reviewed the resignations and obtained the opinion of the Learned Advocate General and circulated the file to the Governor through the Chief Minister for acceptance of all four resignations on 9th January.”
The Raj Bhavan statement said the Governor had accepted all four resignations “without prejudice to the ongoing investigations and any potential future criminal proceedings”.
The Raj Bhavan also assured the people that every precaution had been taken to safeguard the interests of the unemployed youth in this process. It said the decision reflects the responsible handling of a matter that involves ongoing investigations. The entire process of the acceptance of resignations was completed in one day with utmost diligence and in adherence to legal procedures, it added.
