Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav Monday said that there is “no merit” in the alleged land-for-jobs scam case in which he is one of the accused, and added that whenever BJP is defeated, chargesheets are filed against opponents.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the chargesheet in the case on July 3, naming Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi and his parents, RJD chief and former railway minister Lalu Prasad and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi, among the 17 accused. The case pertains to an alleged corruption scam that took place during Lalu Prasad’s 2004-2009 tenure as railway minister in the UPA-1 government, during which he allegedly gave railway jobs to 8 people in lieu of land, thus allegedly amassing property worth Rs 4.39 crore in the market for Rs 26 lakh.

Speaking to the news agency ANI, Tejashwi questioned the delay in pursuing the case.

“The first charge sheet was filed in 2017 and now it is 2023. What were the Central agencies doing for the past six years? People of the country and Bihar know that whenever we have defeated BJP, charge sheets are filed and raids are conducted against us. There is no merit in the case,” he said.

Apart from Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and Tejashwi, others named in the supplementary chargesheet are Maheep Kapur, former GM of West Central Railway (WCR); Manoj Pande, former CPO of WCR; Dr P L Bankar, former CPO of WCR; Dil Chand Kumar; Gyan Chand Rai; Hazari Rai; Mahesh Singh; Mohd Dhanif Ansari; Shatrudhan Rai; Vishwakarma Rai; Ashok Kumar Yadav; Ram Briksh Yadav; Rajnath Singh; and M/s A K Infosystems Pvt Ltd, as per a previous Indian Express report.
