The Supreme Court Friday sought the responses of the Centre and National Testing Agency (NTA) on petitions seeking a CBI probe into allegations of NEET-UG 2024 exam paper leak.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta posted the petitions for hearing on July 8 when some other pleas with similar prayers are scheduled to come up. The court also dismissed the demand for a stay on the counselling due to start on July 6 .
“It’s about the future of 24 lakh students,” submitted a counsel for a petitioner. “We understand that,” said Justice Nath.
To a submission that students are committing suicide in Kota in Rajasthan, the bench said the suicides in Kota cannot be linked to NEET. Justice Nath cautioned the counsel, “Don’t try to make unnecessary emotional arguments here”.
The court also sought responses of those who had moved various high courts for re-test on a plea of the NTA for transfer of such cases to the top court to avoid multiplicity of litigation.
