Six-month-old killed in crossfire between Maoists, security forces

A six-month-old girl was killed while her mother suffered a bullet injury after they got caught in the cross-firing between Maoists and security forces in the forests of Bijapur district in Bastar region of south Chhattisgarh on Monday.
Two District Reserve Guards (DRG) constables — Nilesh Tirkey and Umesh Patel — have also suffered injuries. A joint operation of area domination exercise was undertaken by DRG and CRPF. The team left from Kavadgaon police camp and the encounter took place when they had covered an area of four kilometre. The CRPF personnel were at some distance from DRG, who were solely involved in the encounter.
As per a police officer, the firing began suddenly and the woman, Masse Vadde (30) who was carrying her daughter, got scared and started running to take cover. “At this point the duo was hit by a bullet fired by Maoists. The girl died but the woman rushed back to the village. She is out of danger now,” the officer said.
