The 3.5km-long Signature Bridge in Delhi, which was inaugurated on November 4, has become a point for clicking dangerous selfies. On November 11 and 12, the Delhi Traffic Police prosecuted 53 people for improper parking and towed away 27 vehicles. But on the evening of November 13, as Chhath was being celebrated, crowd at the Signature Bridge seemed hardly deterred by police action. Vendors put up food stalls next to the bridge for the hundreds who had gathered to click pictures of the puja on the Yamuna, flowing underneath.

How far have you travelled to see the bridge?

I stay at Majnu-ka-tilla, which is only about a kilometre from here. I have come here walking with my neighbours. We don’t find time to go out together very often. As it is Chhath, we made a sudden plan to visit the bridge together. But I have come here only for clicking selfies. After taking pictures, I’ll go home.

Do you like clicking selfies?

We had actually come to see the bridge. I don’t click many selfies. But when we arrived here, we saw so many people standing and clicking pictures, we decided to do the same. There are almost 12 of us.

This bridge has already become quite famous. It is being said that the entire city will be visible from the gallery on the top of the bridge. Everyone here, including myself, is aware that it is dangerous to click selfies as the bridge has moving traffic. But clicking pictures here is fun.

Do you upload the selfies on any social media websites?

No, I don’t like uploading many photos on social media websites such as Facebook.

Do you often run out of memory on your phone?

I use a phone which has a good camera. But I’m not a person who loves clicking pictures. However, today, I have clicked about 15 to 20 photographs. Whenever my phone memory gets full, I delete old pictures to make space.
