Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar Wednesday asked Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to provide a copy of the Vedas to all MPs, after which he would ask the members to distribute 100 copies each.
As Pradhan was replying to a question about Vedic schools during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, the chairman said: “Hon’ble Minister, it will be greatly appreciated if you make available to hon’ble members of Parliament, a set of Vedas.”
In response, Pradhan appreciated the suggestion and said he would act on it.
Dhankhar went on to explain why he made the request. “Wherever I go to universities, institutes, I ask the students to raise their hands, [asking] ‘have they seen Vedas?’. Not many raise their hands. So it is time that members of Parliament catalyse an ecosystem so that they become epicentre to disseminate this knowledge.”
He said after Pradhan gives the books to the MPs, he would ask the MPs to distribute 100 each, similar to his earlier request to MPs to plant 100 trees a year.
