President Droupadi Murmu said that the Central government had "redefined the notion of welfare, making basic necessities including housing and access to drinking water a matter of entitlement." Reiterating her address last year, Murmu said that every effort was being made to help "the marginalised communities, particularly of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes".

The President also praised the replacing of the old criminal laws, while adding that lately there had been concerted efforts to change the “colonial mindset”. “We won freedom in 1947, but many relics of a colonial mindset persisted among us for long. Of late, we have been witnessing concerted efforts to change that mindset,” the President said. Citing the benefits of ‘One Nation One Election’, Murmu said that it can bring consistency in governance and prevent policy paralysis, while reducing financial burden.

The President also stressed on the reinforcement of affirmative action as a tool for inclusion, while urging Indians to reject “tendencies that fuel discord based on perceived social hierarchies”.
Republic Day 2025: India will celebrate its 76th Republic Day – commemorating the adoption of the Indian Constitution – on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commence the day by laying a wreath honouring the National War Memorial. Following this, the Prime Minister will reach the Kartavya Path to oversee the ceremonial parade, which includes contingents from the Armed Forces, Para-Military Forces, Auxiliary Civil Forces, with units from the National Cadet Corps and the National Service Scheme. With Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto being the chief guest of the Republic Day this year, a 160-member marching contingent, along with a 190-member band from the country will also participate in the march past.
While calling inclusion "the cornerstone of our growth saga", President Droupadi Murmu said that this included distributing fruits of developments as widely as possible. The President said that the Centre had continued to assign top priority to financial inclusion with schemes like 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana', 'Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana', 'Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana', 'MUDRA', 'Stand Up India' and 'Atal Pension Yojana'.
President Droupadi Murmu said that the economic growth had "remained persistently high" in the recent years. which had created job opportunities for the youth. Murmu said that this had also put "more money in the hands of farmers and labourers", and lifted people out of poverty. "The bold and far-sighted economic reforms will sustain this trend in the years to come," Murmu said.
President Droupadi Murmu, in her address on the eve of Republic Day, said that efforts were being made in the country to change the colonial mindset. Speaking about the cultural wealth of India, President Murmu said that the Mahakumbh festival being held in Prayagraj was an expression of the same.

Praising the athletes who participate in the Olympics and Paralympics for their performances, President Droupadi Murmu said that India had sent its largest ever contingent to the Paralympics. Murmu also hailed India's chess players' win at the FIDE Chess Olympiad, mentioning D Gukesh for becoming the youngest World Chess Champion. The President said that India's victories in sports fields was a reflection of the nation's confidence.

President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation at 7 pm on the eve of the 76th Republic Day. The President's speech, which will be televised live on all Doordarshan channels, will be broadcast in Hindi, followed by the English version, as well as several regional languages. Akashvani (All India Radio) will also air the address live, with its regional language versions airing at 9:30 pm.
