Relief for DK Shivakumar as Supreme Court quashes PMLA case

The ED had initiated the PMLA proceedings after an Income Tax raid at a Delhi premises allegedly linked to Shivakumar led to recovery of unaccounted money of Rs 7 crores in 2017.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday quashed a money laundering case initiated by the ED against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and another person.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and K V Viswanathan set aside an August 2019 ruling of Karnataka HC which upheld the summons issued to them by the ED. The ED had initiated the PMLA proceedings after an Income Tax raid at a Delhi premises allegedly linked to Shivakumar led to recovery of unaccounted money of Rs 7 crores in 2017.

Thanking the SC, Shivakumar said central agencies were planning to appeal against the order but he was prepared for it.
