A porter on way to the cave shrine of Amarnath was killed and four others injured when a landslide struck Brari marg on the Baltat route on Wednesday morning. The landslide struck Brari Marg,110 kms from Srinagar, around 6 am when a group of porters were going towards the shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas.
The deceased has been identified as Ghulam Rasool Wani.
Brari Marg was lashed by snowfall on Tuesday forcing authorities to stop 4,000 pilgrims from proceeding to the cave shrine. They were then brought to the base camp at Baltal. Meanwhile, the second batch of nearly 8000 pilgrims left for the shrine in the wee hours.
Keeping in mind the adverse weather, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB),which manages the yatra, has restricted the pilgrimage to the shorter 16-km Baltal route as the traditional Pahalgam route was covered with snow.
