Train-van collision leaves 5 dead in Coimbatore

Five persons were killed and nine suffered serious injuries when the mini van they were travelling was rammed by a train at an unmanned level crossing near Coimbatore.

Many others who were travelling on the van suffered injuries while the passengers and crew of the train escaped unhurt.

According to Southern Railway,the van tried to cross the track when the special train from Mettuppalayam to Coimbatore was quite close by. Five were killed immediately in the collision and few among the injured are in a critical condition,said sources.
