Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had to face an angry crowd at a village in Harnaut block of Nalanda district,Kumar’s home turf, during his election rally on Wednesday over non-construction of a bridge.
As Kumar finished his speech at Telmar village, where he had gone to campaign for Kaushalendra Kumar,JD(U) nominee from Nalanda, some angry the protesters began raising the slogan “Pul nahi to vote nahi (No bridge no vote),” police sources said.
A handful of people in the crowd got agitated when Kumar did not give any assurance with regard to their long pending demand for construction of the bridge over two rivers- Dhoba and Pain – that would connect Telmar to Patna despite repeated memorandum to the state government.
The agitating villagers even started marching towards helipad, but were prevented by the police. Nitish represented Harnaut in the Bihar assembly before being elected to the Lok Sabha in 1989.
