Issues notice to Rajasthan govt; asks for detailed report of pregnancy deaths in Jodhpur hospitals.

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Government of Rajasthan,asking it to submit a detailed report within four weeks on the death of a number of pregnant women at hospitals in Jodhpur.

The NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports alleging that the women died due to administering of infected intravenous dextrose and ringer lactose fluids,it said in a statement on Monday.

Thirteen women died in the last fortnight of February in Umaid and M G Hospitals of Jodhpur after developing serious post-delivery complications resulting in profuse bleeding allegedly due to administration of the contaminated drip.

“The lab reports in the women and child wing of the state government’s Umaid Hospital confirmed that several batches of IV fluids manufactured by Indore-based company Parental Surgical India Ltd and supplied by Anshul Pharma were infected. Subsequently,an FIR was registered against the companies concerned,” the NHRC said.

“The Commission observed that the contents of the media report,if true,raise serious issues of violation of human rights of the women,who died due to the negligence of hospital authorities and the state government,” it said.

Accordingly,a notice has been issued to the Chief Secretary,Government of Rajasthan to submit a detailed report in the matter within four weeks,the statement said.
