J-K govt to seriously consider Amnesty’s suggestions: Omar

The Chief Minister asserted “the AI report should not and will not be ignored or sidelined. It contains certain things and lessons which we need to think over.”

Omar’s reaction came after opposition members,including Leader of the Opposition Mehbooba Mufti and CPI-M MLA M Y Tarigami,raised this issue in the Assembly during a discussion over grants to various department.

Seeking reply from the Chief Minister,PDP leader Mufti accused the government of transforming the Valley into a “jail” and termed the AI findings as a “black spot on everyone’s face.”

However,Omar maintained the report focuses on PSA and he and his official met AI representatives as they had nothing to hide. “I met the officials of AI and also my officers. If we wanted to hide anything,we would have not met them… We knew that whatever they would write in the report would taste bitter to us,it would not be sweet. But still in view of the democracy we talked to them.”

He also called for discussion over PSA,saying “Can PSA be amended or revoked or done away with is a point of discussion and a better law be made to replace it… We in the government should be ready and have to study it to move forward in this direction.
