J-K govt to develop Yusmarg as a potential tourism hub

The Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to develop the destination on modern lines.

In a bid to explore the virgin scenic beauty of the Yusmarg hill station in Budgam district,the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to develop the destination on modern lines.

“Yusmarg will be developed on modern lines to exploit its virgin scenic splendour for marketing at the global level,” Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora said on Wednesday after laying foundation stone of Alpine hotel at the resort,45 kms from here.

The Hotel Complex is being constructed by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) at a cost of about Rs four crore,a 100 per cent centrally sponsored scheme. The hotel will have 20 guest rooms,one dining hall and centrally heating system.

He also discussed ways and means for opening virgin trekking sites,adventure thrills and Alpine climbing on small peaks,including Sun Set Peak,Tata-Kutti Peak and Bargah.

Jora instructed the concerned engineers and officers of Yusmarg Development Authority to relocate Buzgoo to protect the virginity of Yusmarg bowl.

He also directed them to construct Log Wood Huts,a children’s park outside the main Yusmarg bowl.

Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather,who along with Minister of State for tourism Nasir Aslam Wani was also present,said “development of Yusmarg as a hub of adventure tourism would create ample job avenues for the unemployed youth of the area”.

Rather instructed the engineers to complete widening and macadamisation of the road leading from Chari-Sharif to Yusmarg and Pakherpora to Yusmarg expeditiously.

In this regard,an amount of Rs 20 crore has already been released for construction and upgradation of this 21 kms road patch,he said.

He also stressed upon not to deface natural beauty of Yusmarg in the garb of developmental activities.
