It takes lion’s heart to make lion’s horoscope

The zoo officials are not only christening the cubs after studying their horoscope, they are now going to invite people to do that.

If you were thinking that Rahu and Ketu are affecting health and Shani is creating hurdles in development of human beings, then Rajkots’s Dindayal Upadhyay Aji Dam Zoo officials have something to give you a ‘pleasant shock’.

The zoo officials are not only christening the cubs after studying their horoscope, they are now going to invite people to bring them close to wildlife through auctioning the entire christening ritual for the three offspring by next month.

It was on August 17,2004 the zoo officials for the first time decided to prepare the horoscope of one of the two cubs, which was not keeping well. The horoscope revealed that the three months would be crucial for the cub lioness but she would remain healthy throughout her life. The tradition of christening the cubs continued after that and now the zoo officials are getting ready for yet another ceremony for its three cubs which were born on March 17.

Interestingly, the baptism of three cubs would not just be an indoor affair but the zoo officials have come out with a unique concept of involving people in the whole ritual. During the baptism, the zoo officials would allow citizens to give their favourite name from the sun sign as per their horoscope by paying donations. Whoever would pay the higher amount for donations would be given the honour to name the cubs. The three cubs would be given names from sun sign Scorpio that is Na and Ya.

“The lioness Rajwanti gave birth to four cubs and all of them died. It was sad news for all of us because Rajkot zoo saw the cubs after 12 long years. Later she gave birth to three cubs, one of them died immediately and the two survived. We all were worried about their health. Especially,Mauj did not keep well for three months together. At that time we decided to take help of jyotish shashtra and got in touch with Rajubhai Joshi who studied the planets from their birth timings and dates and eventually came out with the horoscope,” said Nalini Upadhyay city-based animal lover who worked with the zoo officials and priest Raju Joshi to bring out horoscope.

Rajkot Zoo curator R G Maradia said that most of what was written in Mauj’s horoscope has turned out to be true. “While the tradition of naming the cubs as per their sun signs started under unusual circumstances,we want to carry on the ritual but now the intention is different. We want people to come close to nature and environment. Some interested people have already approached us to keep their favourite names but we have decided to keep the ceremony after a month.”

For Rajnikant Anadkat, popularly known as Rajubhai jyotish is now used to prepare lion’s horoscope. “We have named Krish and Crazy,Heer,Het and Helly according to their sun signs. The concept is simple as all lives are same. However, the age of lion cub is less than the humans so I had to do calculations accordingly. The main question about lion cubs is their lifeline, which becomes clear after reading the planetary positions,” he said.
