Indefinite curfew relaxed for 12 hours in Imphal

Indefinite curfew in Manipur's Imphal East and Imphal West districts was today relaxed for 12 hours.

Indefinite curfew in Manipur’s Imphal East and Imphal West districts was today relaxed for 12 hours.

Police and security forces kept vigil during the relaxation period which began at 5 am. The curfew was relaxed to enable people to buy essential items.

The curfew was imposed on August four in the wake of widespread protest against the killing of a young man in an alleged fake encounter by police commandos.

Prohibitory orders were also in force in Imphal and surrounding areas.

A 27-year-old man,Chungkham Sanjit,was killed in an alleged fake encounter by police commandos on July 23. A pregnant woman was also killed by stray bullets.
