Baramulla jail gets separate block for female inmates

Chairperson of J&K State Commission for Women,Shamima Firdous,inaugurated the state's Female Prisoners Block.

Baramulla District Jail has become the first prison facility in Jammu and Kashmir to have a separate block for female inmates.

Chairperson of J&K State Commission for Women,Shamima Firdous,inaugurated the state’s Female Prisoners Block yesterday,an official spokesman said.

Director General of Prison Navin Aggarwal was also present on the occasion.

While appreciating the efforts of the Prisons Department for initiating various steps for the welfare of female prisoners,Shamima expressed hope that it will construct such barracks in all the state’s jails.

Constructed at a cost of Rs eight lakh,the block comprises a prison barrack,kitchen,female warden room and four toilets and can accommodate 20 female prisoners.
