Tourism in the citys famous Lalbagh botanical gardens is expected to get a fresh boost with a new rock garden and musical fountain all set to come up.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP),Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the State Horticulture Department have joined hands for the Rs 65 crore project.
The blue-print for the Rs 30 crore well-designed rock garden with seating arrangements is ready,Minister for Horticulture and Prisons Umesh V Katti said,adding the musical fountain would come up with an investment of Rs 35 crore.
This musical fountain would be like the one in Singapore, he told reporters here.
In 2009-10,Lalbagh botanical gardens collected a revenue of Rs 2.03 crore by way of gate entry fee and flower shows.
He also said HOPCOMS (Horticulture Producers Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society Ltd) would open 100 retail outlets in the city and an exercise is currently on to identify space for them.
Bangalore consumes 1000 tonnes of vegetables and fruits every day,while HOPCOMS,a government-driven venture,has the capacity to meet the requirements of 160 tonnes at the most,Katti said.
