In the wake of death of an NC worker allegedly in police custody,ANC demanded CM Omar's ouster.

In the wake of the death of an NC worker allegedly in police custody,Awami National Conference (ANC) demanded Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s ouster and imposition of Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir.

“I am trying to meet the Governor tomorrow and will request him to step in and impose Governor’s rule in the state,” ANC Senior Vice-President Muzaffar Shah told reporters here.

He said the situation in the state was a “fit case” for imposition of Governor’s rule as the Chief Minister has not resigned after a member of the ruling National Conference died mysteriously after being called to Chief Minister’s residence.

“In the cold blooded murder of Syed Mohammad Yousuf,a prominent NC activist, the Chief Minister and the MOS (Home Nasir Aslam Wani) seem apparently involved in abetment of the crime and a meaningful probe cannot be conducted against the persons involved unless they are made to step aside from the scene of the entire law and order machinery,” Shah said.

Syed Mohammad Yousuf,an NC worker from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, died allegedly in police custody past week after two fellow party workers had accused him of taking Rs 1.18 crore from them for getting them berths in the Legislative Council.

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had yesterday demanded that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his close aide and MoS for Home Nasir Aslam Wani and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah should resign pending a judicial probe into the death.

The ANC leader said by “suspending five members of his (CM’s) security staff, the Chief Minister, prima facie has admitted to the heinous crime that has taken place in his presence.”
