Rajnath Singh's comments came on a day when India said an "air defence system at Lahore” was learnt to have been “neutralised” after Pakistan “attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India”. (Source: PTI)A day after the Indian armed forces conducted Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Thursday that India has been a responsible nation, but if anyone tests its patience, they will face “quality action like yesterday”.
Speaking at the National Quality Conclave organised by the Department of Defence Production and Quality Assurance Organisation, Rajnath Singh said, “We have always played the role of a responsible nation with great restraint. We have always been in favour of resolving problems through dialogue.”
“But this does not mean that anyone should take unfair advantage of our patience. If anyone tries to take advantage of our patience, then they will have to be fully prepared to face quality action like yesterday,” Singh added.
Speaking of the importance of quality in defence production, he said an example of it was visible on Wednesday, referring to Operation Sindoor launched in response to the killing of 26 civilians by terrorists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22.
“The precision with which Operation Sindoor was executed is commendable. Nine terrorist camps were destroyed, and a good number of terrorists were killed. The way this operation was carried out without harming any innocent, with minimum collateral damage, was possible because our formidable and professionally trained armed forces had high-quality equipment,” said Rajnath Singh.
Highlighting the role of the defence industry, Rajnath Singh said, India is “fully prepared for such responsible responses in the future as well”.
“And if we remain prepared, you have a very big role in it. This expanding defence industrial universe of India is providing an unprecedented strength to India,” said Rajnath Singh.
He added that the Narendra Modi government’s focus had been on empowering the defence production sector since it came to power in 2014, with corporatisation of ordnance factories being one of the important measures. He said there was a need to make the Indian defence industry a strong and trusted brand.
Rajnath Singh’s comments came on a day when India said an “air defence system at Lahore” was learnt to have been “neutralised” after Pakistan “attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India”.
“On the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems…” a statement from the Press Information Bureau read.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday called for “seamless coordination among ministries” and asked them to coordinate with state authorities and ground-level institutions during a high-level meeting with secretaries of government departments and ministries.
