Rain to continue in Kolkata, adjoining areas till Sept 26; intensity may reduce: IMD

The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department Friday said the intermittent rain spells will continue in Kolkata and its adjoining areas till September 26 the same or lesser intensity.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has also predicted thunderstorms and lightning in Kolkata and its adjoining areas, including South 24 Parganas, till the morning of September 25, when the sky will start to clear up, said director of the RMC G K Das.
According to the forecast, a few spells of rain are likely on Saturday. The maximum temperature may hover around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature may be around 26 degrees Celsius.

“The low pressure area that has been soaking West Bengal over the past few days will cross Jharkhand and move towards Bihar,” the latest weather report said.
The Alipore weather office has also issued a yellow warning in 15 districts, indicating that the situation is under watch.
On Friday, Kolkata and its adjoining areas witnessed heavy to very heavy rain. The trough brought in by the depression during the week has slowly started to move away ahead of the weekend.
However, torrential rain will continue in West Bengal. There is also a possibility of continuous rain in five districts of North Bengal — Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has been predicted in North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur and Malda.

In South Bengal, Birbhum and some parts of Murshidabad witnessed very heavy rain on Friday.
The intensity of rain will reduce in South Bengal from September 23 but light rain will continue. The amount of rain in South Bengal will decrease further by September 26.
The weather office has also predicted light to moderate rain in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Howrah, Kolkata, Hooghly, Purulia, Jhargram, West Midnapore, Bankura, West Burdwan, East Burdwan and Nadia districts during this period.
