Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday questioned former V-P Jagdeep Dhankhar’s absence and silence since his surprise resignation late last month. Speaking at the Central Hall of the old Parliament building, where V-P nominee Justice (retired) B Sudershan Reddy was introduced to Opposition MPs, the senior Congress leader said the sudden silence by the former Bengal Governor was a symptom of the “times we are living in”. On July 21, the first day of the Monsoon session, Dhankhar had formally resigned from his post citing health reasons. “There is a big story about why he resigned. Some of you might know it, some of you might not. But there is a story behind it,” said Gandhi. “And then there’s a story about why he is in hiding. Why is he, the Vice President of India, in a situation where he cannot say a word. and has to hide. suddenly, the person who used to burst forth in Rajya Sabha has gone. completely silent.”
