Three time MP from Amritsar, BJP’s Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday kept up his attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal saying he was ready for a one-to-one interaction with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Addressing a rally in Barwala for BJP’s Panchkula candidate, Gian Chand Gupta, Sidhu said, “I am ready to sit with him and talk. Main akela aaunga, darta nahi hun kissi se. Par kathputliyon ko jawaab nahi dunga. Baat hogi to aamne-saamne hogi. (I will come alone. I am not afraid of anybody. But I will not answer the questions of his puppets).” Sidhu reportedly said this in response to allegations from some SAD leaders, who had questioned his absence during Arun Jaitley’s campaign for the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year.
“Our alliance partners are backstabbers for whom ethics hold no value. They have back-stabbed the party that gave them the strength to stand up,” said Sidhu launching an attack on the SAD, which is the BJP’s alliance partner in Punjab, but is canvassing for the Indian National Lok Dal in Haryana – BJP’s rival in the state.
In a speech replete with his trademark poetry and tongue-in-cheek humour, Sidhu called upon the youth to follow the path of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and free their state from the clutches of ‘those who have looted it’. Taking a dig at INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala, who has said he will take oath from jail if his party wins, Sidhu said, “This is the party which humiliated officials in their farmhouses. People need to stop them. Agar jurm karna paap hai, toh zulm sehna bhi paap hai.”
He went on to lambast the Congress for the ‘poor condition’ of people in villages of Panchkula, which lack good educational institutes, have pot-holed roads and unemployed youth. “The Congress could not even get rid of flies in Barwala, not to talk of building institutes,” he said.
Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat as ‘heaven’, Sidhu asked people to entrust him with the responsibility of leading the state too. “The BJP has emerged as an insurmountable force, which can build the foundation the state needs. If there is one leader who can lead you to progress, it is Modi,” he said. Sidhu also recalled former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and said there was nobody like him in the country.
