Punjab bags 5 awards in renewable energy sector

Punjab Minister for New and Renewable Energy said the environment of ‘Ease of Doing Business' combined with the strong facilitation attracted Rs 7,500crore investment in the state in this sector.

Punjab New and Renewable Energy Department has been conferred five awards for outstanding performance in the various fields of renewable energy power generation including first award for highest capacity addition in grid connected solar rooftop power in the country during the financial year 2014-15.

These awards were presented by Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy during the foundation day function of Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of State in Bengaluru. The other four areas in which Punjab bagged awards includes achieving highest cumulative grid connected solar rooftop power capacity, deployment of highest cumulative numbers of solar water pumps, highest capacity addition of off-grid waste to energy plants and achieving highest capacity addition in grid connected solar power in the country.

In a statement on Monday, Punjab Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Bikram Singh Majithia said the environment of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ combined with the strong facilitation attracted Rs 7,500crore investment in the state in this sector. “These awards are stamp of approval on our claims that despite being 2 per cent of the total country area, Punjab is leading the way in renewable energy capacity addition in the country,” he said.
