Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday condemned Israel’s “genocidal actions” in Gaza, and said it was the “moral responsibility of every right thinking individual including all those Israeli citizens who do not believe in hatred and violence, and every government in the world to condemn the Israeli government’s genocidal actions and force them to stop.”

Her remarks followed Netanyahu’s defense of Israel’s ongoing war against Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, which is now into its tenth month and has killed nearly 40,000 people, during a speech to the US Congress on Wednesday.

Criticising Tel Aviv’s actions, Priyanka said Israel’s “actions are unacceptable in a world that professes civility and morality. Instead we are subjected to the image of the Israeli Prime Minister being given a standing ovation in the US congress.”

Priyanka also criticised the global response to the ongoing conflict and said, “Their barbarism is being given the unstinted support of most of the western world. It is truly a shame to watch.”

She further remarked, “He (Netanyahu) calls it ‘a clash between barbarism and civilisation’. He is absolutely correct, except that it is him and his government that are barbaric.”

Netanyahu received a warm reception from House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican lawmakers, and he was met with a bipartisan standing ovation.

However, this is not the first time that Priyanka has spoken out for Palestine. The Congress leader has consistently voiced her opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza and has expressed solidarity with the Palestinians.
