The first World Sanskrit Day was celebrated in 1969. The day is marked on the last poornima (full moon) of the Hindu calendar month of Shravan, with an aim to raise awareness about the language used by scholars and saints in ancient India.

In another post in Sanskrit, PM Modi spoke about India hosting the G20 Summit in the coming days and how people from all over the world will come here and learn of its great culture.

In a recent episode of his monthly radio broadcast Mann ki Baat, PM Modi had spoken widely about Sanskrit, calling it the mother of many modern languages. In a couple of earlier episodes too, he had highlighted the work being done by people across the world in promoting the classical language.
