PM meets vaccine makers, asks them to work together

Speaking at an interaction with domestic vaccine manufacturers, Modi also said that the country needs to institutionalise the best practices honed during the last one-and-a-half years.

Lauding the efforts of domestic vaccine makers in crossing the 100-crore Covid-19 vaccinations mark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked them to continuously work together to be ready to face any future challenges.

Speaking at an interaction with domestic vaccine manufacturers, Modi also said that the country needs to institutionalise the best practices honed during the last one-and-a-half years.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO): “He said that the entire world is looking up to India, in the backdrop of the success of the vaccination drive. He also said that the vaccine manufacturers should continuously work together to be ready to face future challenges.”

During the interaction, vaccine manufacturers “appreciated the vision and dynamic leadership” of the PM in providing “continuous guidance and support” towards the development of vaccines, the statement said.

“They noted that had the country been following old norms, there would have been considerable delay and we would not have been able to reach the vaccination level that we have attained till now,” it added.

According to the PMO statement, the interaction was attended by. Cyrus Poonawalla & Adar Poonawalla, Serum Institute of India; Dr. Krishna Ella & Suchitra Ella, Bharat Biotech International Ltd; Pankaj Patel & Dr. Shervil Patel, Zydus Cadila; Mahima Datla & Narender Mantela, Biological E. Ltd; Dr. Sanjay Singh & Satish Ramanlal Mehta, Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd; Satish Reddy & Deepak Sapra, Dr. Reddy’s Lab; and Dr. Rajesh Jain & Harshit Jain, Panacea Biotec Ltd. Union Health Minister, Minister of State for Health and Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers were also present during the interaction.
