Punjab floods update

The flood fury in Punjab this season which peaked in the last week of August and first week of September led to the Aam Aadmi Party-led state government to declare all 23 districts as “flood-hit”. Data as of Tuesday show that the death toll stands at 51, while crops on 1.84 lakh hectares have been damaged.

The floods are a result of swollen rivers the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi along with seasonal rivulets caused by heavy rainfall in their catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
