Ahead of AI summit, PM Modi meets ‘friend’ Emmanuel Macron, attends welcome dinner in Paris

At the dinner, PM Modi also met newly elected US Vice President JD Vance, who is also in France to attend the AI Summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in France to co-chair the AI Summit and was greeted by French President Emmanuel Macron at a welcome dinner on Monday.

In a post on X on Monday, PM Modi stated “Delighted to meet my friend, President Macron in Paris.” At the dinner, PM Modi also met newly elected US Vice President JD Vance, who is also in France to attend the AI Summit.

PM Modi arrived in Paris to co-chair the AI Action Summit with President Macron for the first leg of his two nation tour, and will head to the United States to meet President Donald Trump on 12-13 February.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister’s Office stated “PM @narendramodi interacts with President @EmmanuelMacron and USA @VP @JDVance in Paris.”

PM Modi’s three-day visit to France will witness him co-chairing the AI Summit in Paris, hold bilateral talks with President Macron, and address business leaders.

PM Modi earlier met with the Indian diaspora in Paris and received a grand welcome. Posting pictures on social media, Modi wrote “A memorable welcome in Paris! The cold weather didn’t deter the Indian community from showing their affection this evening. Grateful to our diaspora and proud of them for their accomplishments!”

Before departing from Delhi, the prime minister said that his bilateral meeting with French President Macron is poise to provide a window to review the progress on the 2047 Horizon Roadmap for India-France strategic partnership.

Welcoming PM Modi and US Vice President JD Vance to Paris, Macron posted on X, “Welcome to Paris, my friend Narendra Modi! Nice to meet you dear Vice President Vance! Welcome to all our partners for the AI Action Summit. Let’s get to work!”

PM Modi and President Macron are bound to inaugurate the newest Consulate General of India in Marseille. The two leaders would also visit Mazargues War Cemetery to pay tribute to the Indian soldiers who made sacrifices during the World War 1.

The Mazargues War Cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is situated in Marseille.
