Days after the family of a merchant navy sailor, who died allegedly in an accident on a ship in the US, alleged foul play and refused to bury him, the body has been taken to the district hospital.

Sultan Ahmad (28) died on November 1 near Boston. The family has alleged foul play by the company that hired him, VR Maritime Services, and have demanded a second autopsy. The company, however, denied the claims and said the US Coast Guard investigated the incident.

CMO (Ghaziabad) Dr N K Gupta said, “There is a list of documents required for a second autopsy as the first one was performed by forensic experts in the US. For us to challenge that validity, we need proper reasoning… this can only be established after due investigation.”

But Ghaziabad Police said they cannot register an FIR as the incident took place outside the country. “We have taken the body to the district hospital for now. The administration is handling the case,” said Circle Officer Ravi Kumar.
