The People’s Conference on Friday announced candidates for seven seats in North Kashmir for the J&K Assembly polls. Party president Sajad Lone will contest the two adjoining seats of Handwara and Kupwara.

While Handwara is Lone’s home constituency, which he represented in the 2014 Assembly elections, the party had also won the Kupwara seat in the last election.

PC sources said the party is confident about Handwara where, despite being third in the Lok Sabha polls, Lone secured a lead over his opponents — Engineer Rashid and Omar Abdullah. In Kupwara, however, sources said that the workers have “insisted on putting the best foot forward.”

In Handwara, Lone is pitched against NC’s Choudhary Ramzan and against NC’s Nasir Aslam Wani in Kupwara.
