Bank Holiday Today in India 2025: Public-sector banks (PSBs) and private banking institutions will be closed today, on Wednesday, August 13, on account of Patriot’s Day, as designated in the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 2025 holiday calendar.
Bank holidays in India are determined by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which includes RTGS holidays and other regional and national holidays, in addition to the mandatory weekly days off on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month.
There is a total of 15 bank holidays designated for August 2025, according to the RBI calendar for the year 2025
On this day, August 13, 1891, the British publicly executed Manipur royal Bir Tikendrajit and General Thangal in the park for waging war against the empire.
The day is considered a pivotal moment in Manipur’s history, which is why it is commemorated annually as “Patriots’ Day” to honour and remember the Manipuri freedom fighters who were executed during the Anglo-Manipur War.
It’s important to note that banks in only one Indian city will observe closure, and the remaining will be operational as usual. Below is the table of bank status for today, Wednesday, August 13, 2025:
