Pathankot terror attack evidence to be kept in Mohali

“This is not enough. You have to involve Interpol effectively and get the men arrested. Show some results,” Judge Tarsem Mangla told the NIA officials.

THE SPECIAL designated court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Mohali has directed the NIA to keep all evidence related to the Pathankot airbase terror attack in sealed containers at a police station here. The court also directed the NIA, which filed a chargesheet in the case on Monday, to show some progress at the next hearing on January 9.

Watch what else is making news:

The NIA team, led by an ACP-level officer, told the court that they have got Interpol to issue Red Corner Notices (RCNs) against three of the four accused, including Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Azhar Masood, in the case. The NIA officials told the court that Interpol will soon issue an RCN against Kashif Jan, the alleged handler of the Pathankot attackers, at which point, the judge told them to produce “results” and arrest the culprits and also directed them to seek the active help of Interpol for this rather than just getting RCNs issued.

“This is not enough. You have to involve Interpol effectively and get the men arrested. Show some results,” Judge Tarsem Mangla told the NIA officials.

The judge directed the agency to keep all the evidence related to the attack in sealed steel containers at Phase VIII police station as the Malkhana is not operational in the district courts.

The evidence, which include thousands of papers, weapons recovered from the dead terrorists, wrappers of Pakistan-made food and soft copies of the investigation on compact discs (CDs) were sent to the police station by NIA officials under tight security.

The NIA court had in April this year issued the open-ended warrants against the four accused – Maulana Masood Azhar, Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Shahid Latif and Kashif Jan – in April following which the RCNs were issued against Azhar, Asghar and Latif.
