Pakistan Rangers violate ceasefire, BSF gives ‘befitting reply’

The incident comes days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu on February 20 when he is likely to inaugurate and lay foundation of development projects worth crores.

Pakistan Rangers Wednesday evening resorted to unprovoked small arms fire at a BSF post along the internal border in R S Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir violating the 2021 ceasefire agreement with its Indian counterpart.

Sources said the firing, which started from Pakistan’s Chenab post opposite Allah Mai De Kothey around 5.50 pm, was retaliated effectively and befittingly from its two posts situated in R S Pura and Makwal.

Border Security Force (BSF) spokesperson here said the security force personnel “befittingly responded” to the unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers that started around 5.50 pm and stopped around 6.15 pm. “Troops are on high alert,” he said.

There was no loss of life or property on the Indian side, sources said.

Wednesday’s ceasefire violation has been the second in the last two months, as a BSF personnel was killed in Pakistani firing on the intervening night of November 8-9 in Samba district’s Ramgarh sector.
